Do you guys remember the pleasant noise of the rainstick that your grade 3 teacher used to quiet you? Well, for those who don't, it's this South American instrument that makes a nice rainy sound. My dad and I made it and it was a lot of fun!
Things you will need:
-PVC pipe or that gift wrap tube thing. Don't use paper towel rolls; they are not sturdy enough.
-Nails. When you're hammering them in, make sure they do not stick out through the other end. I feel it would be best to leave some space between the end of the nail and the other end.
-Hammer. Hm, I wonder what this is going to be used for.
-(optional) Stoppers. I don't think they're actually called stoppers but they're great and I'll tell you why later.
This tutorial will be if you want to make it look professional and buy PVC pipe and stoppers. The tutorial can easily be adjusted if you're using gift wrap tube.
Step 1: Take your PVC pipe and cut it to desired length. My dad used this tool that I am pretty sure was an electric saw. I think a normal saw would work too.

Step 2: Using a visible pencil/marker, draw dots where the nails will be. If you are using a gift wrap roll, there will probably be a spiral already there. If you are using PVC pipe like my Dad and I were, just draw the dots of a spiral going 'round and 'round.
At first, we did two visible spiral rings but since the sound was too short, we added two more.
Step 3: Hammer the nails into the white dots.
The inside should look something like this. (note: my iPad camera is very bad so it's kind of dark where more nails should be visible)
Step 4: Grab something like macaroni, rice, beans, or lentils. You can do one or a combination of them. Shake them around in their cans to hear their sounds. If you like them, put them in your rainstick. Test the sound they make. You can always add or remove your sound-makers.
Step 5: Though you probably already did this in Step 4, put your stoppers on.

If you didn't buy stoppers, you can easily make your own using tape and construction paper. Also, you can decorate your rainstick with construction paper.
So there you have it!
I hope you enjoyed this DIY!
Even though I didn't do much since my dad didn't let me do the dangerous parts, it was still super duper fun!
I'll probably be setting up this really cool system in my room with this rainstick. It will work like this: when the door opens the rainstick flips upside down so I can know when people come in. Plus, I can hear that pleasant rainy sound!
Question of the Day: Would you rather be invisible and do amazing deeds (but no-one knows it's you) or be visible and be famous while doing no specifically good deeds?
Please comment, share and subscribe so I know there's some people out there reading! :)
I do post new posts every week...it is 12:06 AM and I am finishing this week's post...but 6 minutes doesn't count that much, right?
Toodle-oo!
